Over twenty years ago, Dharshini worked for a master gardener, installing residential gardens in the Midwest. Here she gained an appreciation of horticulture and the value of creating year round seasonal beauty for one’s living spaces. At the same time, she was inspired by the picturesque and pastoral compositions of Frederick Law Olmsted. Olmsted perfected a comprehensive approach to design, creating scenery to emphasize sublime view corridors and vistas. Dharshini was compelled to study public civic gems like Forest Park, Tower Grove Park, the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Washington University campus, and turn-of-the-century neighborhood parks in St. Louis, Missouri. Indeed, it was the work of Olmsted that directed her to the formal study of landscape architecture, and a move to the East Coast. Professional practice allowed her to work on projects at various scales, including urban parks and playgrounds to civic plazas. Dharshini found herself drawn back to her origins, the residential landscape gardens.

However, she finds that the same principles of picturesque design can be applied to outdoor living spaces. Today, she enjoys practicing the art of effortless landscape choreography, designing outdoor seasonal beauty, around the home.
